Breathing in Confinement – Amirhossein Pourjafar who has recently become 18 years old will be executed on Thursday.

Mojtaba Farahbakhsh, Amirhossein Pourjafar’s lawyer told Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (PRLI) that his client was going to be executed on January 4th.

He explained that the only way left to save Amirhossein was “to obtain the victim’s family’s consent” and stated that the judiciary should not have issued such a sentence from the beginning.

Amirhossein Pourjafar had been arrested in April 2016 on charge of raping and killing Setayesh Goreishi, a 6-year-old girl from the Afghan minority of Iran and sentenced to death for rape, retaliation for murder and fines for committing crimes on the corpse in branch 7 of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province. Branch 32 of the Supreme Court upheld the verdict exactly.

His lawyer had said that Amirhossein Pourjafar had been hospitalized in a mental health clinic however the forensics confirmed his mental health.

His execution had been scheduled for October 19th but it was postponed for unknown reasons.

The execution was opposed by Amnesty International, UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial summary or arbitrary executions and human rights situation in Iran as well as the head of the committee of rights of child. Many social media users wrote against this sentence in recent days.
