Breathing in Confinement – Amirhossein Pourjafar’s execution has been postponed and he will not be hanged tomorrow.

Mojtaba Farahbakhsh, Amirhossein Pourjafar’s lawyer told the report of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (PRLI): “Fortunately the execution was postponed and the sentence is not going to be enforced tomorrow.”

Abolgasem Moradtalab, the Prosecutor of Varamin has told BORNA news agency that the juvenile offender’s execution was postponed.

He added: “The execution of Setayesh’s killer has been postponed and we are waiting for the new appointment by the judicial authorities.”

Amirhossein Pourjafar had been transferred to solitary confinements of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj to be executed.

Amirhossein Pourjafar had been arrested in April 2016 on charge of raping and killing Setayesh Goreishi, a 6-year-old girl from the Afghan minority of Iran and sentenced to death for rape, retaliation for murder and fines for committing crimes on the corpse in branch 7 of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province. Branch 32 of the Supreme Court upheld the verdict exactly.

His lawyer had said that Amirhossein Pourjafar had been hospitalized in a mental health clinic however the forensics confirmed his mental health.

His execution had been scheduled for October 19th.

The execution was opposed by Amnesty International, UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial summary or arbitrary executions and human rights situation in Iran as well as the head of the committee of rights of child. Many social media users wrote against this sentence in recent days.
