Breathing in Confinement – Amirhossein Pourjafar’s lawyer said his client’s execution might be postponed.

According to the reports obtained by Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (PRLI), the authorities of Tehran Judiciary are considering the possibility of postponing Amirhossein Pourjafar’s execution.

Mr. Mojataba Farahbaksh, Amirhossein Pourjafar’s lawyer confirmed this news to PRLI’s reporter and said he hoped that his client would not be executed tomorrow morning.

This morning, Setayesh Goreishi’s family’s lawyer had said that Amirhossein Pourjafar’s retaliation sentence “will be executed tomorrow morning in Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj.”

According to IRNA, Golamhossein Hosseini, Head of Judiciary of Tehran has said: “There are negotiations to postpone the execution but we have not received any new reports ye.”

Amirhossein Pourjafar had been arrested in April 2016 on charge of raping and killing Setayesh Goreishi, a 6-year-old girl from the Afghan minority of Iran and sentenced to death for rape, retaliation for murder and fines for committing crimes on the corpse in branch 7 of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province. Branch 32 of the Supreme Court upheld the verdict exactly.

His lawyer had said that Amirhossein Pourjafar had been hospitalized in a mental health clinic however the forensics confirmed his mental health.

In a statement on October 13th, Amnesty International had urged the Iranian authorities to halt the execution and commute Amirhossein’s sentence to imprisonment.

It should be mentioned that the Convention on the Rights of the Child is unequivocal in its absolute prohibition on the use of the death penalty for crimes committed by people below 18 years of age.
