Rajai Shahr Prison; Pressures Continue on Political Prisoners
Breathing in Confinement – The political prisoners in hall 10 of ward 4 of Rajai Shahr Prison are still being reported to be under pressure.
The reports obtained by “Breathing in Confinement,” indicate that despite replacing the Head of the Prison, the prisoners still have to sleep in the corridor of the hall.
On the other hand, the confiscated properties of the prisoners have not been given back to them yet and the hygienic situation of the hall is “inappropriate.”
According to the prisoners’ families, the authorities still make the prisoners wear prison uniform, handcuffs and shackles while being transferred to the hospital. That is why Reza Shahabi and Hamid Babai have refused to go to the hospital on October 9th.
The prisoner are not allowed to buy the food they want and no newspaper is allowed to enter the ward.
Mohammad Nazari’s situation also is reported to be critical on the 74th day of his hunger strike.
It has been reported that this political prisoner has lost his ability to walk because of his weakness cause by the long hunger strike. He has been imprisoned since 24 years ago and demands a new due process and being released.
It should be mentioned that on July 30th almost 53 political prisoners of hall 12 of ward 4 of Rajai Shahr Prison were transferred to hall 10 of this prison violently. After this at least 17 political prisoners were on hunger strike for nearly 40 days.
In the first days of the strike, the authorities took some prisoners to solitary confinements and kept them there for at most 12 days as a punishment.
The political prisoners have been deprived of their basic rights in this ward and are under surveillance by cameras 24/7.
It should be mentioned that Mohammad Mardani, former Head of the Prison and a known human rights violator in Iran was dismissed of his position on October 7th.
