Breathing in Confinement: Although, after a year of Shahrokh Zamani’s death, the judicial authorities have not given any reason for his death, the Ministry of Intelligence’s agents are trying to prevent his first anniversary.

According to the report obtained by “Breathing in Confinement,” the Ministry of Intelligence’s agents with repeated contact with labor and civil activists, have warned them about their presence in the anniversary of Shahrokh Zamani.

Despite these efforts, his family succeeded to hold a ceremony in Tehran on September 1. The ceremony was attended by family members and a few friends of Shahrokh Zamani and some poems were read in this trade unionist’s remembrance.

According to Zamani family, another ceremony will be held at the tomb of Shahrokh Zamani, in the Cemetery of Vadi Rahmat in Tabriz, on September 9.

The Ministry of Intelligence’s agents have contacted labor and civil activists, particularly in Tabriz, and warned them about attending this ceremony.

According to an informed source, the officials have claimed in the contacts that the arrest warrants for 10 people have been “issued” by the prosecutor and if they would attend the ceremony, it would be considered as “acting against the national security” and they would be arrested.

Shahrokh Zamani, a member of the Union of Painters and Construction Workers of Alborz Province and a member of the Committee for the Establishment of Independent Trade Unions, died in his cell in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, on September 13, 2015.

The prison officials said that he died of a stroke, but autopsy results are still pending after more than a year.

This labor activist was arrested in Tabriz on June 8, 2011, and was released on a bail of two hundred billion IRR on October 19.

Shahrokh Zamani was tried by the Revolutionary Court, after being released from detention and was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment. He was arrested along with the other labor activist, Mohammad Jarahi, in January 2012.

He was transferred from Tabriz Central Prison to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj without a court order on October 17, 2013.
