Breathing in Confinement – The intelligence officers prevented the transfer of a conscience prisoner from Iraq to his country.

According to the reporters of “Breathing in Confinement”, Marivan Karkuki, who has been sentenced to 33 years imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, is held now in hall 10 of Rajai Shahr Prison, in Karaj.

The prison authorities had told him earlier that they would send him to Iraq when there is an agreement between Iran and Iraq on the extradition of prisoners, but now, although it is agreed that a prisoner can be transferred to their country to continue serving his term on their demands, the Ministry of Intelligence of Iran prevents the delivery of Marivan Karkuki to Iraq, saying that such a person is not detained in Iran.

An informed source in an interview with reporters of “Breathing in Confinement”, told about his situation that: “Marivan Karkuki, is imprisoned under the name of Najaf Abdul Rahman in Iran and the Intelligence is fully aware that Najaf Abdul Rahman, is the same person as “Marivan Karkuki”.

The source added: “This Kurdish Sunni youth says  that he has had written 20 letters to prosecutors and assistant prosecutors and officials of the Ministry of Intelligence and the Embassy of Iraq so far to deal with his extradition to Iraq, but apparently none of the letters written has passed the prison door”.

Marivan Karkuki (known as Najaf Abdul Rahman), was arrested in Tehran on charge of having no passport on 29th November 2012, and after a night detention in Shapour Police Station, was transferred to Evin prison, then after 7 months of interrogation, he was tried in the Revolutionary Court without a barrister and was sentenced to 33 years imprisonment and was transferred to the prison of Rajai Shahr in Karaj.
