Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to drug offences was carried out in Kerman Prison.

According to reporters of Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Kerman Prison in the early hours of Wednesday, 17 June. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed as Hossein Keshani.

According to the report, Hossein Keshani, 39 years old and a native of Azadshahr, had previously been arrested on charges related to drug offences and was sentenced to death by the judiciary. The sentence was carried out in Kerman Prison in the early hours of Wednesday, 17 June 2026.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
