Execution of a Prisoner in Urmia Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 3 October 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death, was carried out in Urmia Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Urmia Prison at dawn on Saturday, 3 October. Breathing in Confinement has confirmed the identity of the prisoner as Mostafa Sharifi.
According to the report, Mostafa Sharifi, 45, from the village of Tavan, was arrested five years ago on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary. His sentence was carried out in Urmia Prison in the early hours of Saturday, 3 October.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
