Breathing in Confinement – Friday, October 30, 2026: Ali Alipour, the father of executed political prisoner Babak Alipour, has been transferred to Ward 12 of Lakan Prison in Rasht following the completion of interrogations at the “Shohadaye Gomnam” security detention centre in the city.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of Prisoners’ Rights in Iran, Mr Alipour was transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht on Thursday, October 29, after approximately 10 days in a security detention facility.

Ali Alipour was arrested on Tuesday, October 20, when security forces raided his residence in Rasht. He was subsequently transferred to the security detention facility known as “Shohadaye Gomnam.” During the arrest, security agents also confiscated several electronic devices belonging to him and members of his family.

Despite more than 10 days having passed since his arrest and his subsequent transfer to prison, no information has been released regarding the reasons for his arrest, the charges against him, or the judicial status of his case. It also remains unclear whether he has been granted access to a lawyer of his choice or afforded other legal rights during the proceedings.

Babak Alipour, Mr Alipour’s son and a political prisoner, was executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on March 31. Another son, Roozbeh Alipour, has been detained since February this year and remains imprisoned at Ghezel Hesar Prison without a final resolution of his case.

The continued detention of members of this family, without transparent information about the legal grounds for their arrests or the charges against them, has heightened concerns about security and judicial pressure being exerted on the families of political prisoners and executed individuals.
