Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the execution of a prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Torbat Heydariyeh Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the execution of a prisoner in Torbat Heydariyeh Prison was carried out. The identity of the executed prisoner, Hadi Zarei, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
The Public Relations Office of the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Torbat Heydariyeh reported: “The qisas (retribution) sentence of a prisoner named H.Z. was carried out by hanging after 8 years since the murder of Ali H.B., a resident of Bayeg, committed in collaboration with another individual, due to the victim’s family’s refusal to grant clemency.”
The identity of the victim, Ali Heydarian, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
