Identity of Second Prisoner Executed in Qezel Hesar Prison Confirmed

Breathing in Confinement, Thursday, 30 July 2026: The death sentences of at least two prisoners who had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death were carried out in Qezel Hesar Prison.
According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Qezel Hesar Prison at dawn on Wednesday, 29 July. Their identities have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Seyed Ahmad Tabatabaei Zavareh and Hassan Khalili. Breathing in Confinement had reported the execution of Seyed Ahmad Tabatabaei the previous day.
According to the report, Seyed Ahmad Tabatabaei Zavareh, from Varamin, had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. Hassan Khalili, also from Varamin, was the father of a young son. Efforts to obtain the consent of the victim’s family were unsuccessful, and their death sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, in Qezel Hesar Prison.

At the time of publication, no official sources had announced the execution of these prisoners.
Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
