The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on a charge of “murder” was carried out in Behshahr Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Behshahr Prison at dawn on Tuesday, 8 September. Breathing in Confinement has confirmed the prisoner’s identity as Ezzat Asgari.

According to the report, Ezzat Asgari, from Khalil Shahr, had previously been arrested on a charge of “murder” and sentenced to death by the judiciary. His sentence was carried out in Behshahr Prison at dawn on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
