Report on the Execution of Seven Prisoners in Prisons Across Iran

Breathing in Confinement, Friday, 9 October 2026: The death sentences of at least seven prisoners, including one woman, who had previously been sentenced to death on charges of “murder” and drug-related offences, were carried out in Dezful, Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Sari and Shiraz.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least seven prisoners were executed in Dezful, Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Sari and Shiraz over the past several weeks. The identities of six of these prisoners have been confirmed as Ahmad Nikdel, Mohammadreza Aziz-Haji, Ashraf Faraji, Fazel Ghasemnejad, Mahmoud Alishahi and Samad Hojjatpour. The identity of one prisoner has not yet been established.
According to information received, Ahmad Nikdel, 44, a father of three, had previously been arrested following an altercation and sentenced to death on charges of “murder”. His execution was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 7 October, in Dezful Prison.
The Javan newspaper also reported the execution of another prisoner in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. The prisoner had previously been arrested in connection with a fatal altercation and sentenced to death. His execution was also carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 7 October. The prisoner’s identity was not disclosed in the published report.
Mohammadreza Aziz-Haji, 30, from Dezful, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder” following an altercation with his brother’s creditor. According to available information, his execution was carried out on Wednesday, 23 September, in Dezful Prison.
Ashraf Faraji, 57, originally from Ahvaz and residing in Sari, was a mother of four. According to published information, she had been receiving psychiatric care. She was arrested and sentenced to death following an argument that resulted in her husband’s death. Her execution was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 30 September, in Sari Prison.
Seyed Fazel Ghasemnejad, 36, from Jolfa, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder”. His execution was carried out on Saturday, 19 September, in Shiraz Prison.
Mahmoud Alishahi, 48, and Samad Hojjatpour, 51, both from Bojnurd, had been arrested two years earlier in a joint case involving the transportation of 14 kilograms of heroin and subsequently sentenced to death. Their executions were carried out at dawn on Sunday, 4 October, in Shiraz Prison.
No Official Announcement by State Authorities
As of the publication of this report, no official sources had announced the executions of six of these prisoners.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
