Breathing in Confinement: Bahar Sahraeian Jahromi, an attorney-at-law in Shiraz and a human rights activist, particularly in the field of women’s and children’s rights, has been arrested.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Saturday, 16 May 2026, Bahar Sahraeian, a member of the Fars Province Bar Association, was arrested by security forces while attending the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz and carrying out her professional duties in relation to legal representation and case follow-up.

According to the report, she was transferred to the prosecutor’s office on Sunday morning for the formal presentation of charges. Allegations including “assembly and collusion with the intent to act against national security”, “propaganda activities against the regime”, and “spreading falsehoods” have reportedly been brought against her.

The arrest of a lawyer while carrying out professional duties is considered a violation of the fundamental principles of fair trial, including the right to free access to independent legal counsel and the professional immunity of lawyers.

Reports also indicate that Bahar Sahraeian had previously been arrested in 2022.
