Breathing in ConfinementOn Monday, 16 February 2026, Hadi Sharifzadeh, a lawyer, was arrested at his home in Shiraz.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Hadi Sharifzadeh, a licensed attorney and member of the Iranian Bar Association, was arrested today at his home in Shiraz and transferred to an undisclosed location. At the time of writing, no information has been released regarding the reasons for his arrest, the authority issuing the arrest order, or any potential charges against him.

On Wednesday, 4 February 2026, Mr Sharifzadeh had published a report addressing the conditions faced by families of those detained during the January protests, describing the atmosphere of fear and anxiety prevailing among these families. In that report, he emphasised that many families seeking information about the legal status of their children were confronted with ambiguity and uncertainty. He also noted that, in certain cases of a security-related nature, restrictions are imposed on the choice of legal counsel, which he argued may be inconsistent with established legal principles and standards.

Hadi Sharifzadeh has previously faced judicial summons and proceedings. On 8 October 2025, he was tried before Branch One of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Sadati, on charges including “spreading false information” and “propaganda against the regime.” Prior to that, he had also been summoned to Branch Ten of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court to provide explanations.
