Breathing in Confinement: Sara Shahbazi, a university lecturer, has been arrested by security forces in Sabzevar.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Sara Shahbazi, a university lecturer and a Bakhtiari citizen from Khuzestan, was arrested on 16 March 2026 in the city of Sabzevar by security forces.
At the time of writing this report, approximately 45 days after her arrest, no information has been made public regarding the reasons for her detention or the charges brought against her. Efforts by her family to obtain information about her condition have so far been unsuccessful.
According to this report, citing Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ms Shahbazi was initially transferred to Sabzevar Prison following her arrest and, after a few days, was moved to the women’s ward of Torbat-e Heydarieh Prison.
