2 Activists Arrested in Ahvaz

Breathing in Confinement – After more than a week, still there is no news about the fate of arrested civil activists in Ahvaz.
According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, Reza Kaabi, son of Hanash, a graduate of law from the University of Shushtar, from the village of Bayt Thamer Kaabi located in Shoeybieh and Ali Jalali, 45, married and father of two children, were arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence on May 18 and 20, and their families have no idea of the reason for their detention, yet.
According to the local human rights activists, Intelligence agents raided a village in Shoeybieh on May 17 and before entering Kaabi’s home they faced people’s resistance, but when it was clear that they were from Ministry of Intelligence, they were allowed to enter. During that time Reza Kaabi left the area and intelligence agents arrested his father and two brothers instead and kept them in detention as hostages, therefore Reza Kaabi showed up at the Intelligence office on May 18.
Reza Kaabi, a civil activist, had written several articles about poverty, unemployment and also is one of the critics of Sohrab Gilani, the Member of Parliament from Shushtar. Reza Kaabi and other friends have had civil and cultural activities and had an active role in planting palm trees in the villages of Shoeybieh, like Beit Hossein Alfrih and the village of Beit al-Suleiman.
After arresting Kaabi, intelligence agents raided Ali Jalali’s house in Danial Avenue in Shoeybieh and arrested him at 5 am on May 20.
Mr. Ali Jalali has had cultural activities and was very active in collecting donations from people for the flood victims in Shoeybieh. These two civil activists collected donations from people for the victims of the flood that hit the area and caused a lot of damage in Shoeybieh in Shushtar.
Their families have no information of the fate of the two civil activists yet.
Recently, another civil activist named Zakia Neisi was arrested in Ahvaz and was released after three days.
