Breathing in Confinement: On Thursday, September 19, 2024, a 21-year-old man was executed in Amirabad Prison, Gorgan, on charges of “murder.”

According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the League for the Prisoners’ Rights in Iran , the prisoner was hanged at dawn on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in Amirabad Prison, Gorgan.

The identity of the prisoner, Yasin Darvishi, a 21-year-old from Gorgan, has been confirmed by “Breathing in Confinement.”

According to a source quoted by “Breathing in Confinement,” Yasin was 18 years old at the time of his arrest. Regarding the murder charge, the source said: “Yasin was in a relationship with a girl. After her brother found out, he went to confront Yasin, and a fight broke out. Yasin had a hunting rifle, and during the altercation, he accidentally used the weapon, leading to the brother’s death. Following his arrest and the murder charge, the victim’s family did not grant forgiveness, and Yasin was executed at dawn on September 19.”

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
