Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Sunday, September 22, 2024, a prisoner was hanged in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz on charges of “murder.”

According to the Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the execution of a prisoner in Shiraz prison was carried out at dawn on Sunday, September 22, 2024. The identity of the prisoner, Fardin Hamedi, has been confirmed by the Breathing in Confinement.

According to the report, Fardin Hamedi, from Mamasani, had previously been arrested on charges of murder and was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court of Fars Province. He had been held in Pirbanu Prison for a period before being transferred to Adelabad Prison.

According to a well-informed source, he and another prisoner were moved to solitary confinement in preparation for the execution. This morning, Fardin Hamedi’s execution was carried out, while the other prisoner was returned to the ward.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
