At dawn on Sunday, 11 May 2025, the death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted of rape was carried out in Miyaneh Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, one prisoner was hanged early Sunday morning, 11 May, in Miyaneh Prison.
The report quotes Mahmoudian Ravinejad, the public and revolutionary prosecutor, who stated that in late July 2023, a family contacted the police after their 10-year-old child went missing during a public event. During the investigation, an individual was arrested on charges of rape and later sentenced to death by Branch One of the Miyaneh Criminal Court. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court. The sentence was carried out at dawn on Sunday, 11 May 2025, in Miyaneh Prison. The identity of the prisoner has not been disclosed.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
