Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, November 20, the death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted of drug-related offenses was carried out in Tabriz Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at least one prisoner convicted of drug-related crimes was executed in Tabriz Central Prison. The identity of this prisoner, Morteza Daneshvand Bakhshayesh, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

Morteza Daneshvand Bakhshayesh, son of Rasoul, was previously arrested and sentenced to death for drug-related offenses. His sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, November 20, in the courtyard of Tabriz Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
