Breathing in Confinement: On Thursday, August 29, 2024, a prisoner was executed in Tabriz Prison on drug-related charges.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged early Thursday morning, August 29, 2024, in Tabriz Prison.

The identity of this prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Shahin Yusef Oghli from Miandoab.

According to Breathing in Confinement, quoting an informed source, Shahin Yusef Oghli, the son of Behrouz, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to “drug offenses.” He was executed at dawn on August 29 and buried in Golshan Zahra, Miandoab, on Friday, August 30.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
