A report on the execution of two prisoners in Lakan Prison in Rasht

Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on June 2, 2022, two prisoners sentenced to death for murder were executed in Lakan Prison in Rasht.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on June 2, 2022, two prisoners named Behnam Khanjani and Farhad Ramezanian, were executed in Lakan Prison in Rasht on charges of murder.
Farhad Ramezanian had been sentenced to retaliation for the “murder” of his wife and was being held in prison for about seven years. He had been transferred to solitary confinement on May 17, to serve his sentence. In the same case, his sister had also been executed in the same prison last year.
Behnam Khanjani, 42, was married. According to an informed source, Mr. Khanjani had not pleaded guilty to murder and had no role in the crime.
On June 1, 2022, Behnam Khanjani had his last visit with his family. On the same day, about 200 of his acquaintances, friends, and family members, as well as some people of Rasht gathered in front of Rasht Prison to obtain the consent of the victim’s family.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 383 prisoners were executed during the past Persian Year (March 20, 2021 – March 20, 2022), of which only 34 were reported by the state media, and the rest were carried out in secret.
