At Least 2814 Prisoners Executed During Rohani’s First Term in Office

Breathing in Confinement – At least 2814 prisoners have been executed in Iran during Rohani’s first term in office.

The center of statistics of Prisoners‘ Rights League in Iran has reported that from 3 August 2013 to 3 August 2017 at least 2814 death sentences have been executed in Iran.

According to this report 173 of the executions have been carried out in public.

The state-run and official media in Iran have reported only 32% of these execution and the rest has been reported by independent human rights activists and media.

Also during the Rohani’s first 4 years at least 31 juvenile offenders have been hanged in Iran. At least 54 women were among the executed prisoners, too.

The drug offenders make more than 58% of the executed prisoners which is the most rate among the charges punishable with death penalty in Iran.

This report also states that at least 84 prisoners of conscience and political prisoners were sent to the gallows during Hassan Rohani’s first term of presidency.

At least 951 death sentences have been carried out during Rohani’s second year of presidency which is the highest number among the 4 years.

At least 4 homosexual prisoners, one prisoner with mental illness, one prisoner with disabilities, one prisoner of financial crimes and one former nuclear expert were also among the executed prisoners.

During this time also 52 foreign prisoners including 43 prisoners from Afghanistan, 6 prisoners from Pakistan and 3 Turkish citizens have been executed in Iran.

The center of statistics of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran will soon publish a more detailed report about the issuance and execution of death penalty in Iran during Hassan Rohani’s first term of presidency.
