At Least 82 Prisoners Hanged in September 2024

Breathing in Confinement: In September, the Islamic Republic authorities hanged at least 82 prisoners in 25 different prisons across Iran.
According to the Statistical Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Breathing in Confinement, at least 82 prisoners were executed during September.
- 34 prisoners were executed on drug-related charges
- 48 prisoners were executed for murder
- 3 juvenile offenders were executed
- 2 prisoners were publicly executed in Khomein County
The executions took place in at least 25 prisons, including those in Rasht, Neishapur, Hamedan, Kermanshah, Kerman, Tabriz, Qezel Hesar (Karaj), Gorgan, Shiraz, Kahnuj, Jiroft, Bandar Abbas, Zahedan, Yazd, and others.
Two prisoners, identified as Reza Rashno Sadeghi and Haji Kaboudvand, were publicly hanged in Khomein County.
Against international laws and conventions, the authorities also executed 3 juvenile offenders. Ali Jahampour in Shiraz Prison, Parsa Hasanzadeh in Isfahan Prison, and Milad Ekhlaspoor in Kerman Prison, all of whom under 18 at the time of their arrest, were executed on murder charges.
Out of the 82 executions, only 5 were reported by the state media, while 75 were revealed by human rights activists.
With rising tensions in the region and the potential for conflict in the Middle East, there has been a significant rise in the number of executions across various prisons. The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran calls on international human rights organizations and the United Nations to take immediate and decisive action to halt the continuation of executions in Iran. From the beginning of this year until the end of September, at least 542 executions have taken place. During this period, 14 political prisoners, 21 women (including one juvenile female offender), and 4 other juvenile offenders were executed. Since the start of 2024, 3 prisoners have been executed in public.
