Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Monday, 19 May 2025, the death sentence of at least one prisoner previously sentenced to death was carried out in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in the early hours of Monday, 19 May, in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz. The prisoner has been identified as Alireza Zare by the Breathing in Confinement team.
According to the report, Alireza Zare, son of Ne’mat and a resident of Shiraz, had previously been arrested on charges of “assault” and was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court of Fars Province. The sentence was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 19 May, in Shiraz Central Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
