Breathing in Confinement – The death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Saveh Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, a prisoner was executed by hanging in Saveh Prison. The identity of this prisoner, Ali Showkat, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement. The outlet had reported the previous day that the prisoner had been transferred to solitary confinement for execution.
Ali Showkat had previously been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death. Two months ago, he was transferred to solitary confinement for the execution, but the process was halted and a two-month reprieve was granted. However, his family was unable to obtain forgiveness from the victim’s family. The sentence was ultimately carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, in Saveh Prison.
