Breathing in Confinement: The death sentences of at least two prisoners, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder, have been carried out in Kermanshah Prison.
According to reporters for Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Kermanshah Prison in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 June 2026. Their identities have been confirmed as Abbas Zarei and Dariush Ghobadi. Breathing in Confinement had previously reported the execution of Abbas Zarei.
According to the report, Dariush Ghobadi had been arrested three years earlier on charges of murdering five people, including four members of his own family, and was subsequently sentenced to death. On 18 October 2023, Mr Ghobadi, the father of the family, reportedly experienced a state of psychosis and hallucinations following the use of methamphetamine (“crystal meth”). He is said to have used a firearm to kill four members of his family and one friend.
Abbas Zarei, a married man from the village of Sarin in the Firouzabad district of Kermanshah County, had previously been arrested on charges of murder and sentenced to death.
The death sentences were carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 June 2026, at Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
