Breathing in Confinement: The death sentences of at least two prisoners, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to drug offences, have been carried out in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.
According to reporters for Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Mashhad Prison on Monday, 8 June 2026. Their identities have been confirmed as Manouchehr Nikoukhalgh and Asadollah Bahreh. Haal Vsh had previously reported the execution of Asadollah Bahreh.
According to the report, Manouchehr Nikoukhalgh, a resident of Salarabad village near Mashhad, and Asadollah Bahreh, a 35-year-old resident of Salehabad in Torbat-e Jam County, were arrested three years ago in connection with a joint case involving drug-related offences and were subsequently sentenced to death.
The death sentences were carried out in the early hours of Monday, 8 June 2026, in Mashhad Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran.
