Breathing in Confinement, December 21, 2020: After spending eight years in death row, a Baloch prisoner was executed in Zahedan Central Prison.

According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, on December 20, 2020, a Baloch prisoner named “Abdolbaset Khasht”, the son of Pir Mohammad from the village of Banest in the city of Konarak, was executed in Zahedan Central Prison. The prison authorities, however, denying the executed prisoner and his family of the last visit, kept the family uninformed of the execution. Abd al-Basit’s family members were informed of his execution on the morning of December 21, when they were called to the forensic medicine department to collect the body.

As per the report, the investigation process, in this case, was not transparent and he was denied the right of a public hearing.

Abd al-Basit had been detained in Zahedan Central Prison for eight years, on charges of killing a military officer. He had repeatedly denied the allegation though.

The report adds: “The security officer was killed at Kahir intersection in the City of Konarak, and when the officers were looking for the assailants, they saw Abd al-Basit, who was there and fled when saw them.” Abdul Basit’s ID card fell on the ground while fleeing, which led him to be identified and arrested.
