Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of a police officer who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder has been carried out in Bandar Abbas Prison.
According to reporters for Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Bandar Abbas Prison in the early hours of Thursday, 11 June 2026. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Mehdi Ebrahimi.
According to the report, Mehdi Ebrahimi, an officer with the Bandar Abbas Law Enforcement Force, was arrested approximately seven years ago on charges of murder committed while carrying out his official duties. Following judicial proceedings, he was sentenced to death.
The report states that while responding to an assignment, Mr Ebrahimi encountered an individual who had been involved in a dispute with his own family. Although the individual was reportedly unarmed, Mr Ebrahimi opened fire, resulting in the person’s death.
Despite efforts by the Law Enforcement Force and the judiciary to secure the victim’s family’s consent—including an offer to pay several times the amount of the prescribed diyeh (blood money)—the family declined both the compensation and reconciliation. Consequently, the death sentence was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, 11 June 2026, at Bandar Abbas Prison.
