Breathing in Confinement – The execution of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death was carried out at Rasht Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the early hours of Wednesday, 24 December 2025, a prisoner was hanged at Rasht Prison. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Mehdi Rajabali-Zadeh.

Mehdi Rajabali-Zadeh, 23 years old, had previously been arrested on charges of murdering an individual named Vahid Shadman and was subsequently sentenced to death. His sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, at Rasht Prison.

The prisoner had also been transferred to solitary confinement last month in preparation for execution; however, after obtaining a temporary reprieve, the implementation of the sentence had been postponed at that time.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
