Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Sunday, 11th August 2024, the execution of a prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed in Shiraz Central Prison early on Sunday, 11th August 2024.

The identity of this prisoner has been confirmed by “Breathing in Confinement” as Mehdi Dehdari, a 30-year-old man. A source aware of Mr. Dehdari’s ‘murder’ charge told the reporter of the “Breathing in Confinement”: “Mehdi Dehdari, from the village of Sahra Rud in Fasa, unintentionally committed the murder while drunk during a fight at a wedding ceremony.”

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official sources.

According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 46 prisoners have been executed in various prisons over the past seven days. The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, warning of a new and increasing wave of executions amid tensions with Israel, calls on international authorities to take decisive action to prevent further executions.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
