Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, June 9, 2022, a prisoner sentenced to death for murder was executed in Amol Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner who has been identified as Javad Amini, was hanged in the morning of Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Amol Prison.
In addition to the mass execution of 12 prisoners, including a woman, in Zahedan Prison on June 6, 2022, at least 16 other prisoners have been executed in the last three days in the cities of Ahvaz, Birjand, Isfahan, Rajai Shahr, Ilam, Khalkhal, Kermanshah, Urmia, and Ardabil. Among those executed was a prisoner under the age of 18 at the time of his arrest.
The significant rise in the number of executions in recent weeks has raised a huge concern. The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran calls on the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran as well as the United Nations Human Rights Council to take immediate action to save the lives of the prisoners on the death row in various prisons in Iran.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 383 prisoners were executed during the past Persian Year (March 20, 2021 – March 20, 2022), of which only 34 were reported by the state media, and the rest were carried out in secret.
