Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, November 14, the execution of a prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Amol Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’s Rights League in Iran, at least one prisoner was executed on charges of “murder” in Amol Prison at dawn on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The identity of the prisoner, Reza Kardel, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

Reza Kardel, a resident of the village of Rukesh, was arrested two and a half years ago on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. The efforts of Mr Kardel’s family to secure the consent of the victim’s family (to forgo the execution) were unsuccessful, and he was hanged at dawn on Thursday, November 14, in the courtyard of Amol Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
