Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of a prisoner, previously arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges, has been carried out in Damghan Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the early hours of Monday, 1 June 2026, a prisoner was hanged in Damghan Prison. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Morteza Sadeghzadeh.

According to the report, Morteza Sadeghzadeh, a resident of Saqqez, had been arrested three years ago on drug-related charges and was subsequently sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 1 June 2026, in Damghan Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
