Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Saturday, November 16, the execution of a prisoner sentenced to death for the charge of “premeditated murder” was carried out in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news agency of the League for the Human Rights of Iranian Prisoners, at least one prisoner was executed on Saturday morning, November 16, 2024, in Dastgerd Prison on charges of “murder.” The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Sajjad Karami.

Sajjad Karami, son of Abdolrasoul and a resident of Varnamkhast, a district of Lenjan County, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder.” He was hanged at dawn on Saturday, November 16, in the courtyard of Isfahan Central Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
