Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on charges related to drug offences and sentenced to death, was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison in the early hours of Monday, 15 June. The prisoner’s identity has been verified by Breathing in Confinement as Alireza Ahmadi Balsini.

According to the report, Alireza Ahmadi Balsini, also known as Ali Balans, was arrested in May 2020 in Eslamshahr on charges of transporting 120 kilograms of methamphetamine (crystal meth) and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary. He was reportedly denied the right to a final visit with his family before the execution, and his relatives were not informed of the scheduled implementation of the sentence. The execution was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 15 June 2026, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
