Breathing in Confinement: On Monday morning, September 28, the death sentence of a prisoner was carried out in Gonbad-e Kavus. The prisoner had twice a death sentence for murder.

According to the Rokna news agency, on Monday morning, October 28, 2020, a prisoner, named Aref Aminpour, 24, accused of murder was executed in Gonbad-e Kavus. He was 21 when arrested in 2017, is accused of killing two of his friends, Mehran Pourghazi and Adnan Aq Tabai.

Rokna reported that in September 2017, two teenagers from Gonbad-e Kavus went missing. And six days, their bodies were found by a shepherd in Haji Ghoshan village in Gonbad-e Kavus.

 

According to the report, after the bodies were discovered, some of the victim’s friends were arrested as suspects, from whom one said: “One of our friends named Aref Aminpour had messaged me saying: “I will kill Mehran and Adnan.”

 

According to Rokna, Aref, 21, had said in his confession: “That night, a fight broke out between me and Adnan Aq Tabai over a girl who I loved. I was suspecting that Adnan had affair with the girl. That’s why I put the knife under his throat while he was swearing and denying that. I however, stabbed him to death as I hated him.”

 

In recent days, human rights violations in Iran have been vastly protested by the international community. One of the objections of human rights organizations and the United Nations is the widespread use of death penalty by the authorities of the Islamic Republic. Iran has the highest execution rate per capita in the world.
