Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, the death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Gonbad-e Kavus Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the executed prisoner was identified as Behzad (surname unknown).
Behzad, a 20-year-old from Maraveh Tappeh in Golestan Province, had been arrested two years ago on charges of murder and sentenced to death. According to a reliable source, Behzad was under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged crime, making him a juvenile offender.
Despite this, the execution was carried out at dawn today, Wednesday, 9 April 2025, in Gonbad-e Kavus Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, five people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
