Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, November 21, 2024, the execution of at least one prisoner convicted of drug-related offenses was carried out at Alvand Prison in Hamedan.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League of Iran , at least one prisoner convicted of drug-related offenses was executed at dawn on Thursday, November 21, in Hamedan Prison. The identity of this prisoner, Meysam Nouri, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

As per the Breathing in Confinement reporter, Meysam Nouri, son of Zabihullah and a resident of Qorveh, had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. His execution was carried out at dawn on Thursday, November 21, in the courtyard of Alvand Prison in Hamedan.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
