Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, previously arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder”, has been carried out in Shiraz Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the early hours of Monday, 1 June 2026, a prisoner was hanged in Shiraz Prison. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Saeed Dehghani-Zadeh.

According to the report, Saeed Dehghani-Zadeh, son of Karamatollah and a resident of Shiraz, had been arrested eight years ago on charges of murdering a security officer and was subsequently sentenced to death. Throughout the investigation and trial proceedings, he denied the accusation and, despite alleged pressure and mistreatment, did not admit to committing the murder. The sentence was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 1 June 2026, in Shiraz Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
