Breathing in Confinement: In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, a prisoner was executed in Tabriz Prison on drug related charges.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed in Tabriz Prison early Wednesday morning, September 18, 2024. The identity of this prisoner, Hadi Fallah, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

Hadi Fallah, a resident of Tabriz, was arrested four years ago on charges related to “drug offenses” and was sentenced to death. He had been transferred from Ward 15 of Tabriz Prison to solitary confinement for the execution of his sentence.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
