Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, November 1, 2024, the execution of a prisoner convicted of murder was carried out in Tabriz Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least one prisoner was executed at dawn on Thursday, November 1, 2024, in Tabriz Prison. The identity of the prisoner, Abolfazl Shahbazi, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

According to a report from Breathing in Confinement, Abolfazl Shahbazi, a resident of Ahar, was arrested five years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner  has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
