Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the execution of at least one prisoner arrested on charges of “murder” was carried out in Tabriz Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed in Tabriz Prison in the early hours of Thursday, March 6, 2025. The identity of the prisoner, Saeid Karimkhani Alqandis, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
As per the reports received by the Breathing in Confinement, Saeid Karimkhani Alqandis, son of Ghodrat, 25 years old, and a resident of Sardroud, was arrested three years ago on charges of murder and sentenced to death. His family was unable to obtain the consent of the victim’s family to commute the sentence, and the execution was carried out at dawn on Thursday, March 6, in Tabriz Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
