Breathing in Confinement, Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – At dawn on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the death sentences of at least two prisoners, who had been arrested and sentenced to execution on charges of murder, were carried out in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, early on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, two prisoners convicted of murder were executed in Shiraz Prison. The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed as Mehdi Iranianpour Haghighi and a woman with the surname Bagherinejad.
According to the Breathing in Confinement’s reporter, Mehdi Iranianpour was arrested in 2020 on charges of murder and was sentenced to death. He had been imprisoned in the Green Ward for young offenders. Additionally, based on a report by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, a 45-year-old woman with the surname Bagherinejad had been arrested five years ago for the murder of her husband and was sentenced to death. The issued sentences were carried out at dawn on Tuesday, February 18, in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
