Breathing in Confinement – The death sentences of at least five prisoners who had been arrested on drug-related and “murder” charges were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, five prisoners were hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison. Their identities — Seyed Saeed Seydi-Tabaei, Hamidreza Maleki, Javad Sargazi, Ali Garavand, and Sajjad Mahmoudi — have been verified by Breathing in Confinement.
Seyed Saeed Seydi-Tabaei, from Pishva, and Hamidreza Maleki were arrested seven years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. Javad Sargazi, from Zabol, and Ali Garavand, 28, from Kuhdasht, were arrested nine years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. Sajjad Mahmoudi was arrested seven years ago on a murder charge and sentenced to death. Their sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
