Breathing in Confinement – The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to execution, was carried out at Ahvaz Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the early hours of Thursday, 22 January 2026, a prisoner was hanged at Ahvaz Prison. The identity of the executed prisoner has been confirmed as Mehdi Ali Hosseini.
Mehdi Ali Hosseini, a native of Andimeshk, had previously been arrested on charges of murdering an individual named Gheibi from Dezful. However, throughout all stages of the judicial process, he denied the accusation and consistently maintained his innocence. According to available information, no compelling evidence proving his involvement in the crime was presented. Nevertheless, the court ultimately sentenced him to death solely on the basis of an oath sworn by fifty individuals. The execution was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, 22 January 2026, at Ahvaz Prison.
