Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, the death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted of murder was carried out in Arak Central Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the executed prisoner was identified as Mehdi Motevalli.
As reported, Mehdi Motevalli, a resident of a village in Khondab, was arrested three years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death. At the time of the incident, he was a minor and still a student—legally a juvenile offender.
Despite this, the death sentence was upheld, and his execution was carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, in Arak Central Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
