Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, January 16, the death sentences of at least three prisoners, who had been arrested and sentenced to execution on charges of “murder,” were carried out in Khorramabad Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, three prisoners were executed early Thursday morning, January 16, in Khorramabad Prison for charges of “murder.” The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed as Saman Davoudian, Mohammad Amiri Baharvand, and Rashid Zeynabi.

As per the Breathing in Confinement reporter, Saman Davoudian, 28 years old, the son of Aziz, was a resident of Rabat Namaki village in Khorramabad. He had been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder.” Mohammad Amiri Baharvand, the son of Reza and a resident of Andimeshk, had been arrested and sentenced to death for the “unintentional” murder of his cousin during an altercation. Rashid Zeynabi, 36 years old, a resident of Boroujerd, had also been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder.” The executions were carried out at dawn on Thursday, January 16, in Khorramabad Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
